Going through rush as a twin

Because I am a twin I have always grown up with a built in best-friend. My twin sister Molly and I are extremely close and tell each other everything. Applying to colleges was a difficult task for us both, we weren’t sure if we wanted to go to the same school or not. Neither of us wanted to hold the other back by choosing the same school. We wanted to go to whatever college would be best for us individually. Molly and I choose very different majors. She is a graphic design major, and I am a therapeutic recreation major, so we had to go to schools that meet those needs. After many months of acception letters, deferrals, and last minute decisions, we both chose Tennessee. Molly and I were so happy that we were going to be able to call the same place home for the next four years. We have always been each other’s safe place, so knowing that on a campus of 28,000 students, I could always have that one person there for me, was so special. Molly and I both knew we wanted to go through the recruitment process. Neither of our parents were involved in Greek Life, so we had no idea where to start. Thankfully we were placed in the same Gamma Chi group which was another sense of comfort in an extremely intimidating and nerve-wracking process. Our Gamma Chi was absolutely amazing throughout the entire process. She helped Molly and I to best navigate the process as twins. We wanted the process to work, so we agreed to not share our thoughts/feelings of the houses throughout rush. I went through rush seeking the same comfort that I found around Molly-one that can ease all nerves and worries. The second I stepped into Alpha Delta Pi, I truly felt right at home. The feeling of comfort carried on through all of my conversations. Each woman I talked to felt like I was talking to a lifelong friend. I never felt any judgment or worries in regards to how they perceived me. It was a hard final decision during Preference round, but I knew that above all else I wanted to go somewhere where I felt truly myself and fully comfortable. I had no idea where Molly was going to run home to on Bid Day, but since we are so different, I assumed it may not be the same one. The moment we got to share when we each opened up our bids, is a memory I will cherish forever. She ended up receiving a bid from Kappa Kappa Gamma, and we were both so excited that she got to call this amazing chapter home. She was also so happy for me because she knew I ended up in the place that was best for me. The recruitment process perfectly guided us through prioritizing our own values. I am so blessed to call ADPi home and to be surrounded buy women who are my comfort, safe place, and home.
